I think we are a bit too late in discovering BC Rail, it seems to be nearly all over. Maybe Prince George and Prince Rupert next year for another fix. RhB 603 climbs towards the summit of the Wolfgang Pass in deep snow, with a ski train extra from Klosters to Davos.There are two trains providing an hourly service in each direction, but on this day one train was a railcar rather than a loco. RhB 646 approaches Celerina, between Samedan and St Moritz with one of the hourly expresses from Chur to St Moritz. The advertisement is correctly pronounced RhB 606 leaving Celerina, between Samedan and St Moritz with a Saturday Ski extra from St Moritz to Davos, via Filisur. RhB 648 in a new advertising scheme this year climbing towards Saas on the hourly express from Landquart to Davos. The front section of four coaches then forms the hourly train from Davos to Filisur - a change to the diagrams from December 2008. RhB 631 is working the hourly Disentis to Scuol Tarasp upgrade towards Saas. RhB 514 works uphill towards Saas with one set of stock for the Sportszug. Two sets of stock work hourly between Klosters and Davos. For several days during our trip one set was a railcar and coaches. FGW 43027 leads the Midland Mainline HST stock past Ruscombe. 1 March 2008 DRS 47802 leads 1Z86, Watford Junction to Weymouth past Ruscombe with 47712 on the rear. 1 March 2008 Former Loadhaul 60007 brings 6B33 past the site of Wolfhall Junction on the scenic route back to South Wales from Theale. 1 March 2008. 60059 in Loadhaul colours passes Elford with 6K60 Toton to Crewe. EWS 37405 has a rare outing on 6B44 Oxwellmains to Powderhall with the “binliner” empties at Spittal. EWS 66023 with am empty MGR train with the older HAA wagons passes Houndswood, north of Berwick on Tweed. National Express East Coast 91114 passes Houndswood, north of Berwick on Tweed pushing a southbound express. The white stripe replacing the GNER red makes for a much more photographable train (in my view). A HST in the new national Express East Coast colours passes Houndswood, north of Berwick on Tweed. EWS 60053 on 6E30 Dalzell to Lackenby steel empties pass Houndswood, north of Berwick on Tweed DRS 37069 and 37423 finally (more than 4hours late) head through Glen Lochy on the line to Oban with 1Z44 Dumabarton to Oban. A looong cooold windy wait, with occasional sunny bits, luckily including the actual fraction of a second needed for the shot….. DRS 37069 and 37423 arrive at Oban four and a half hours down, with no chance of the promised trip to Mull for the passengers, perhaps their two hours at Craigendoran Junction was sufficient compensation for this loss. Taynuilt with 1Z45 returning from Oban to Dumbarton, this time with 37423 on the point with 37069 behind. DRS 47802 with 47501 on the back leads 1Z46 Barrhill to Ayr Stobart Pullman through Lugton, on the former Glasgow & South Western line. 1Z46, Barrhill to Ayr, now with DRS 47501 on the front and 47802 on the back following reversal at Kilmarnock, passes Drybridge in scenery not entirely untypical of this part of south west Scotland, or at least the bit the railway goes through. After this we gave up for the day. EWS 67004 passes Bridge of Orchy with the sleeper from Euston (1Y11) EWS 66102 at Achallader on the West Highland line to Fort William with 6Y15, the daily freight to Fort William. After a sunny day in Budapest it was raining hard by the time we got to Serbia and we did not see the sun again until we arrived back in Hungary. Desoite the weather a very interesting trip with a good selection of locomotives seen. I will put up a selection of these locomotives as well as shed views and some infrastructure pictures. Between 50 and 80 freights were seen each day, although for many of these it is was too wet and dark to photograph.There were a few minutes of sunshine now and again and a trip south to Nurnburg to escape the greyness was largely sunny although not a photographic experience. Unfortunately the Union Pacific local management seem to have adopted a zero tolerance attitude to being on their property, including dirt roads well away from the lines, and many of the familiar photospots are now definitely off limits, including anywhere around the Tehachapi Loop, Caliente, Bealville and Woodford. I certainly will not be returning to Tehachapi while this attitude persists. Mixed weather, as might be expected at 4,000 feet in February.
